This enrichment, which affects a surface band between 0.80\u00f72.00 mm depending on the case, serves to form carbides that make the surface very hard and resistant to wear. To achieve this, it is necessary to carry out, after the carbon diffusion treatment, an austenitisation followed by hardening (in water or oil or polymers) and finally a stress relieving (or tempering at low temperature) not exceeding 200\u00b0C. This heat treatment, called quenching and tempering, results in a very hard structure on the surface, called martensite. steels<\/strong><\/h4><p>For higher stresses and thicker of the part, it is necessary to switch to <strong>alloy case-hardening steels:<\/strong> to <strong>16MnCr5<\/strong> or, for higher hardenability, to <strong>20MnCr5<\/strong>.
