What are case-hardening steels?
Case-hardening steels are low carbon steels (0.10-0.25%), designed to undergo a thermochemical treatment called carburizing, which consists of a surface enrichment of carbon in the order of 0.5-1.0 mm. The subsequent heat treatment of hardening and tempering allows to obtain in surface a martensitic structure, extremely hard (58-64 HRC), and at heart a toughness structure able to resist the stresses to which the component is subjected.
